The Artisan Food & Craft Tour
Irish food is only becoming recognised in the last few years for the gastronomic delight that it is! Farmhouse butter, cheese, jams and chutneys are winning awards all over the world. Bacon as we know it was invented in Ireland, as were crackers, the flavoured potato chip even chocolate milk! And you don’t know what happiness is, till you’ve tried fresh smoked salmon from the Duncannon Smokehouse, or tried Pat O’Neills hand-cured bacon from Enniscorthy. Or dipped a lump of fresh soda bread into a dish of honey made by the bees that live off the heather on the side of Augrim mountain.
Foraged wild foods, fried fish cooked literally across the road from the harbour, handmade cheeses, jams and chutneys – Soda Bread, Bracks and Scones washed down with locally brewed craft beers, pints of fresh milk, handmade fruit juice and cordials by fruit picked that morning, and finished off with creamy yoghurts and handmade chocolate
A feast for all the senses!
On this tour you can also visit the following places
The Olde Stick Shop
I get the pleasure of introducing you to Liam O Caidhla, who crafts Shillelagh fighting and walking sticks in his workshop in the tiny Wicklow village of Shillelagh. A charming man with a captivating and beautiful craft, learn about their connections to leprechauns, Robin Hood and the role they have played in shaping the world we live in today and how it takes up to three years to create just one. For more information on Liam and his craft click here
The Farm Shop
A much loved and important resource for local artists, food producers and crafters. The farm shop has in just a few short years made a name for themselves as the place to go for locally produced goods of an exceptionally high standard, farmhouse butter, homemade jams, cheese and chutneys and so much more. The Irish Times listed it as one of their top 20 Hidden Treasure of Ireland and its very easy to see why. I cant pass without picking up some of Philips homemade jam!
