The Ring of Hook Tour
Hook Peninsula is one of my favourite areas of Wexford County, very lush, green and fertile land on one side and the wild Irish sea on the other! This set tour takes you through an area with narrow and winding country roads and pretty villages with some quite remarkable stories behind them.
All you need to to do is sit back, relax and enjoy the sights. We visit all the “bucket list” sites but the tour as always can be adapted to suit you!
Choose four of the sites listed below,
Reputed to be the most haunted house in Ireland, its reputation is well deserved! Hear the story of how the owner played cards with the devil, and how his daughter lost her mind as a result. Did the devil come because of what he did to those two Italian brothers…..
The oldest lighthouse in the world, lighting up the coast for over 800 years. Its beam has seen many things, from the arrival of the Norman Invaders to Pirates and Smugglers, hear their stories on a visit here!
Dunbrody Famine Ship
A replica of the SS. Dunbrody, a “coffin ship” that carried famine refugees to faraway America & Canada. On this guided tour, you can climb aboard and meet some of the passengers about to embark on the epic journey that sometimes took 3 months to complete, assuming, of course, the fever didn’t get you!
An impressive star-shaped fortress perched on the side of the Hook Peninsula. This historic structure has gathered countless intriguing and awe-inspiring stories over its 450-year history including plenty of ghosts and confiscated pirate treasure! It also holds one of the best vantage points to take in the beautiful Waterford Estuary from
A Stout defensive Norman Towerhouse built around 800 years ago, inside is an original Oubliette Dungeon. Find out from resident Guide Frank why these towers are so abundant in the South East and why they are nicknamed the ten-pound towers
Tintern Abbey and Walled Gardens
This beautiful abbey is considered to be one of Irelands most romantic ruins, built by the remarkable knight Sir William Marshal of the Knights Templar for his beautiful wife Isobel de Clair. The walled gardens meanwhile are like something from a child’s storybook! A gorgeous place to while away a few hours and sneak a few apples from the trees!
What about lunch?
